2″ Fresh snow in Kane Valley! I skied P1 through Ravens and Gulch today and while it was warm and a bit sticky(+4) when i finished at noon, it was beautiful! I am using liquid glide on my fish scales (every time i ski)…. any other suggestions for sticking? Different hot wax maybe on my tips and tails?

Thanks to everyone for contributing (money!) and leaving comments at the registration boxes. It is much appreciated and makes sure that the grooming can continue as well as giving Mike & Darren some feedback for grooming!

    Happy skiing!

  2. Andrea Lawrence says:

There’s 2 inches of new snow here at Kane Valley west and it’s still snowing. -4 at 9am. Happy skiing!

  3. Andrea Lawrence says:

Thanks for the posts, Rob. Kate was away and I managed to break a rib while climbing over the snowbank at P3 with my skis on (don’t try that). Hopefully we’ll be back to the trails soon (after it snows tomorrow – fingers crossed)! Andrea

    Jan 26th / 13
skied up hills homestead and back Kane. Very easy going and the trails are in good shape

  6. Kate says:

Grroming update: The following trails have been groomed and tracked on January 19th; Chute,Kane, Matthews,Harmon,Aspen,Sundown,Ravens & Gulch. Thank you Darren!!

We skied P1 to p6 today. It’s a bit fast in spots but it was good skiing and a blue bird day with temps just below freezing. We spooked a moose off the trail up by the Beaver dam and tried to ski through the moose clumps on the tracks.

More grooming will follow, lets hope for more snow!

  7. Helen says:

It would be much appreciated if it was posted when the trails are freshly track set

  8. Anne says:

Skiied Kane from P3 to P5 and back. It was a warm and beautiful day. Busy — met about 7 people on the trail. Trail getting a little rutty but skiing still good though sticky in the sun in the early afternoon. Get out early for the best ski.

  9. Kate says:

Missing: Sunglasses and a cell phone lost somewhere on Menzies/Ravens please call Terra @ 315-1002 if you find them!

It’s warm up here today (+), conditions may be questionable? Grooming will continue this weekend.

    Happy Skiing,
    Kate.

Gorgeous sunshine with no wind. From P5 and Kane I skied up the skidoo tracks of Ravine and Connector (scenic rabbit warrens!). Odd conditions in that there is powder snow at low and high elevations but a crust in the middle. So going down Tolko Loop hill and Sky High was crunchy and very fast – I was glad to have my steel edges. Temp. started out at -11 and 2 hrs. later was -4. Snow conditions may be quite different on the south-facing trails after today. I even ran into some sticky snow in the warm sun. Happy skiing!

    Grooming Update:
Everything is groomed with the exception of Harmon & Ravine. Lots of tracks set as well on most of the trails.

Tree across on Harmon, will get it removed this week and get Darren to groom it this weekend.

Snow Conditions are (in my opinion) perfect!

  12. Katharine says:

Good skiing on freshly groomed Raven’s Ridge-Menzies trails. Bright sunshine, -10 to -12 C. Cold snow isn’t fast so hills were manageable.

  13. Kate says:

Grooming Update: From P3 up Vale, Raven’s from lunch box thru Menzie’s loop has all been groomed, as well as Chute & Matthew’s on the lower side. Other Trails have been packed by the snowmobile, due to the heavy snow fall earlier in the week this is a necessary first step in the grooming process. The groomer will be out again tomorrow and Sunday, snow conditions are excellent! Thank you Darren, welcome back!

Please note our groomers (Mike and Darren) both work during the week, grooming takes place on Fri,Sat & Sundays.

*** Chili Sunday this Sunday Jan 13**** P3 @ 11-2pm Bring some chili to add to the communal pot, and your own bowl, cup & spoon. Come celebrate the snow & our community. All are welcome!!! Lessons @ 1pm with Andrea for beginners and me!

Please also note P2 parking lot is currently snowed in. Access to the lower side from P1 (Chute) or P3. Hopefully VSA will do us the huge favour of plowing us out at P2, will keep you posted. It is not a scheduled road, so the fact that they plow us out at all is a huge community service that we all benefit from and appreciate. They do an awesome job at keeping the Kane Valley Road open too, many thanks to the team at VSA!!

Cheers & Happy skiing this weekend,
    Kate.

Kate (her e-mail down for a bit) corrects that snowfall to 14 inches on Kane Valley Rd., likely even more up at the top of Hill’s Homestead and Harmon…so bring your snorkels and get ready for the deep stuff! Temp.-11 early this morning.

  15. Andrea Lawrence says:

Mike groomed Aspen, Sundown, Kane, Matthew’s Loop, Chute, Raven’s Ridge, Menzie’s, Tillicum, ASP, and Vale on January 8th. – before the storm, which dropped about 8 inches of snow. So there’ll be lots of fresh grooming the next few days to get us back to powdery soft trails as the temperatures drop again and the sunshine arrives!

Remember Chili Sunday, this Sunday, 11 am to 2 pm at Parking Lot 3. There’ll be lunch ready by the fire! Bring your own portion of chili to add to the pots, a mug, bowl and utensil and some left-over Christmas baking for dessert. The club will supply buns, tea, coffee and cocoa. We’ll have free beginner lessons at 1pm, and some spare equipment to try out for those who have never skied before. Members and non-members welcome! See you there.

Grooming Update: The following trails were groomed January 8th. Aspen, Sundown, Kane, Matthew’s, Chute, Raven’s, Menzies, Tillicum, Asp and Vale. More grooming today conditions permitting.

  17. Andrea Lawrence says:

    Hi Debbie,
I will have 2 sets of XC equip. to loan for try-out on Chili Sunday (this Sunday) if you see me at the P3 shelter. They are boot sizes 8-10. I’ll take beginners for starting lessons at 1pm. Let me know if you have any more questions.

  18. Debbie Unrau says:

Hi there, I am interested in learning to cross country ski, is there anyone out there that rents the equipment? I would like to try it out before purchasing equipment, thank you.

    Debbie

  19. Kate says:

Grooming Update: Cross-Over, Neil’s valley, Vale, Raven’s Ridge, Gulch, Asp & Menzies were all groomed on January 3rd. Thanks to Mike and to Kerry for their help with this!
Raven’s Ridge will need some more snow to repair the damage of some ATV activity that occured up there via Iron Mt. The people responsible were spoken to and hopefully the ski trails will be respected.
Overall, the rest of the trails are in good shape. More grooming expected over this weekend.
    Enjoy!

  20. Andrea Lawrence says:

There must have been a special for babies and dogs at P2 today with at least 6 car loads of families enjoying Matthews Loop. As well there were 2 snow-shoeing families who took the special snow-shoe trail that starts in behind the shelter at P2. Gorgeous sunshine and temp. up to -2 in the afternoon. Happy skiing.

  21. Kate says:

Grooming Update: Today Mike groomed Tolko, Connector, Over easy ( from Gulch to P5), crossover, Gulch from lunchbox to Harmon.
    Great conditions!

  22. kate says:

Grooming Update: Dec 31st Mike groomed the following trails; Kane, Skyhigh, Hills Homestead, Matthews Loops, Chute, Raven’s Ridge, Vale and Menzies. Awesome Mike, thanks for keeping us all in good shape!

There are lots of positive comments from skiers and we want to focus on these however…..
an increased number of snowshoers are using the ski trails and messing up the trails causing rough sking and extra grooming. Please note that snow shoeing is not permitted on the trails, there are some links to some snow shoe trails in Kane Valley, you can find the links on our site… and you can see the flagging tape too. Please encourage snow shoers to use these excellent trails so we can all enjoy playing outside with optimal conditions for all.

Thank you all for supporting our non profit club! We encourage you all to buy a membership, or pay as you go and drop money in the box. Happy New Year and good health to one and all! Kate

  23. Andrea Lawrence says:

Yesterday, with clear blue skies and -10, was a fabulous day for skiing. We did a Harmon loop from P5, starting with a ski across the lake to P4, then a slog uphill on ungroomed Over Easy (never easy), then flat-groomed trails with an inch of new snow up Gulch and Harmon to Panorama for lunch, then down Harmon to P6 and back on Aspen. We haven’t had wind for about 10 days so the trees are still laden with snow and it’s very beautiful. We didn’t pass any other skiers but Kate reported 19 cars in the parking lots.
Happy New Year and good skiing everyone! See you at Chili Sunday Jan.13.
