ATTENTION SNOW-SHOERS                                                                                                Please do NOT snow-shoe on the groomed trails. “Groomed” means any trails that are smoothed by our groomer. You are wrecking the trails for the skiers who pay for the grooming.

Been skiing in the past day or so? Leave us a comment about which route you used, what the trail was like, and anything that needs attention. You can also leave (or respond to) questions on the Kane Valley Trails or about local weather.

We’ll also use these posts to tell you what’s been groomed, what is scheduled to be groomed, and anything else club members and trail users should know about.

    Good Morning,
Lightly snowing at -3. Be careful of icy sections under trees and crunchy under the bit of new snow we got. Kate said her skiing was good yesterday and is out this a.m. as well. The groomer has been called to remove the tree down on Ravine ( so until he does so, please be careful there). Happy skiing.

We just had a terrific ski from P1 up through Ravens, up Tillicum, top part of Asp and back down Ravens… Floated down the hills, a few icy patches under some bigger trees, but honestly a beautiful ski and day to be out! AND the sun is shining! Enjoy!

Unexpectedly, the conditions today were great! -2C. and 2-4 cm. new snow. We started from P5 and did Kane>Ravine>Skyhigh>Kane. A little icy under the new snow on Skyhigh and there is a tree across Ravine at Bertha Landing. Snowing lightly as we left for home at 2 pm.

  3. Andrea says:

Variable skiing today…there’s not quite enough new snow to cover all the crunchy ice, esp. under the trees. But Kane was good as well as lower Matthews loop – upper Matthews pretty difficult – and heard the same about ice on Gulch, though Ravens and Asp reported ok. It could be that trails at higher elevations like HH and Harmon may have missed the rain and are softer. It went up to around freezing and by afternoon the snow was sticking. But a beautiful sunny day to be out.

  4. Kate says:

2 inches of fresh snow yesterday afternoon and currently -9 and blue sky this morning in Kane Valley. Skiing should be good.

  5. shelley says:

Groomer completed all trails today. -1 right now and snowing.

  6. Janet Harper says:

Skied 20 minutes at P2 to beginning of Homestead at 11:30am. Temp was-1. Snow is loud crunchy ice and crust. Not a pleasant experience today. Did not look like it was going to soften anytime soon. jh

    Grooming Update: January 21, 2016
Groomer reported that he groomed on 20th-21st groomed all trails ( except Harmon, Over Easy).

0 degrees and it was raining in the late afternoon today. More grooming will take place on Saturday ( weather permitting : if it gets colder and not raining).

Grooming Update: Darren groomed the following trails on the 15th:
Matthews Loop, Kane to January landing, Aspen, Sundowner, Chute, Ravine, Raven’s Ridge, Gulch, Vale. He reported that all other trails looked good. Darren reported lots of fallen snow from the trees, with more to come down.
It is snowing right now with about one and a half inches of fresh snow at -5.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy and a big thank-you to all those who contribute to the daily fees and memberships, this keeps our groomer grooming 🙂
    Happy skiing.
    Shelley 🙂

  9. Andrea says:

Well, the skiing has notched down below perfect, due to wind on Wed. that knocked heavy snows off the trees into frozen piles on the trails. But it was a beautiful day, -1 temp and Darren was out grooming so we had a fast, virgin run on the fresh track back on Kane.

  10. Rob Rose says:

Another gorges day on the trails today. skied p1, lunch box, over easy, Kane.

  11. Andrea says:

I’ve rarely had such a great Harmon ski – fast, velvet powder snow on a very smooth groomed base – thank you Darren! A super run down – we broke the Harmon Cutoff trail which ends up at the cattleguard. Perfect temp.of -5 and to top it off, a great grey owl flew off its perch next to Panorama Shelter. Happy skiing.

  12. Kate says:

Conditions remain good in Kane Valley. Current temp is -2. Darren has been grooming all week and all the trails are in terrific shape and tracked. Thanks Darren! The skiing is fabulous.

    Happy New Year!
The trails are groomed and in excellent shape. Kane Valley Road is plowed and easy driving.
We’re having the best skiing in many years on the Kane trails.
But it is very cold – around -25C this morning but warming up in the sunshine.
So come skiing but dress warmly.
