skied Matthew’s loop, Kane, Hills homestead today. skiing was good. Trails not groomed but had a nice base with over 2″ of new snow. Skiing up Tolko was tough going but the beautiful sun shine and view made it very worth while.

I parked at p1 and skied ravens ridge, gultch and menzies this afternoon Jan 30th. The kane valley road was not plowed at 4pm. There is nice snow up there. No grooming or tracking. Temperature was -7. There is about 6cm of snow average on the old base, more in the open and less in the trees. It seems to have melded over and into the mess of ice and tracks to create a reasonably flat safe base. Skier tracks are soft and forgiving. The snow is light and fluffy so skiing was very safe and enjoyable. Watch for two bits of hidden ice along menzies lake. I would suggest taking advantage of this new snow. jh

Is there enough new snow for the groomer yet?

  4. Travis Fehr says:

    Got retired skis collecting dust?

BreatheBikes is seeking used skis–particularly sizes 160 and under.

Update for Chili Sunday: Tomorrow, snow (as opposed to rain) or shine! There was some rain over night but none today and light flurries all day today too! Yippee! Maybe winter is coming back?

Looking forward to catching up with folks tomorrow at P3 between 11-2 All you need is enough Chili for your group, a bowl and spoon and come hang out. Oh yeah…. And bring your skis (or snowshoes) too! If you don’t want Chili (or forgot to make some – thanks Cathy F you ARE the one!) come anyhow- there is always lots!

Please keep using the blog and let us know if you’ve been skiing and how it is. It’s a fabulous tool that is as useful as we collectively make it.

    Cheers Kate

Skied P1 Ravens, Gulch, & Menzies this morning and it was soft (only sticky at the end of the route +3 by noon) and a decent ski. The base is packed with an inch of light snow on top. It was totally enjoyable!

CHILI Sunday Jan 12 : Please join us! Bring enough Chili for your group to add to the communal pot, along with your own dishes. Also, bring along any goodies you want to share (left over from the holidays?).

Lesson @ 1pm by Travis (Breathe Bikes …. and skis) Travis also has a full range of adult ski rentals. His contact # is 250 936 9702 if you want to arrange to rent some gear. He will also be on site with waxes and to answer any questions. Thanks Travis!

    Lets hope for more snow!

Skied up Vale to ravens ridge today. Along ravens ridge to Tillicum where a big dark bird (I am not a birder but think it was an owl) flew into the trees. Then up Tillicum, up Asp and down Vale to p3. The snow is skier friendly soft. At 3.00pm I put glide wax ( paraffin) on my non wax skis to stop any hint of sticking. The few tracks made by other skiers were soft. There is not much snow but there is no ice. Really nice ski conditions. It was -1 at 4:15. jh

Skied Ravens Ridge, Tillicum, Vale to Lunchbox and back yesterday. Good skiing but snow is rather thin on the ground and almost bare under some trees. We really need a good snowfall. The Lunchbox outhouse is now a 5-star facility, thanks to Murphy, I think!

  12. Josee Warren says:

Hello. My name is Josee Warren and I work for PacificSport. I organize sport camps to introduce kids to a variety of sports in hopes they will find a sport they like and join that sport. On Feb 21, I will be bring about 20 kids to Kane Valley to introduce them to cross country skiing and snow shoeing. The kids will be there from about 9-3pm. I am looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to take a couple of groups skiing or cross country skiing. You will need to help get the kids geared up, take them for 30 minutes and take their gear off (about 1 hour twice). If you are interested please let me know ASAP at jwarren@pacificsport.com or 250-315-1075. Most of these kids will have no experience and this would be a great opportunity to expose them to Kane Valley. Thanks.

Jan 3/14 I was pleasantly surprised with over an inch of new snow on the trails. Skied p2 kane snowing lightly.

  14. Paisley says:

Thank you for the updates. They really have helped us decide if we ought to make the trek there.
